As a society, we are becoming more aware of mental health issues, and we’re talking more openly about them. At our next Volunteer Event, we will take a closer look at one of these issues — suicide. Our guest speaker for the event will be suicide prevention trainer Deeatra Kajfosz. In January 2001, Deeatra received a second chance at life following her third survived suicide attempt. Today she reaches audiences with her transparent account of hidden secrets, battle with mental illness, near-fatal suicide attempts, and an unexpected twist toward acceptance, healing, and hope for others. Deeatra is an award-winning suicide prevention disrupter, advocate, educator, published author and trainer of a lifesaving technique called QPR.

QPR (QUESTION. PERSUADE. REFER.) is an evidence-based certification course, designed to empower participants who desire a greater understanding of the topic of suicide. QPR certification helps you learn the life-saving skills for responding to a potential or existing suicidal crisis. This training includes a thorough understanding of suicide statistics, known risk factors, who is at an increased risk, and how to identify suicidal behaviors in another person (or yourself). The course concludes with the three specific steps (QPR), proven to save lives through successful intervention and referral.

Please join us at our Volunteer Event for QPR, Suicide Prevention Training and Certification. Discover how this lifesaving technique (QPR) could be a blessing to you and those you love. Feel free to invite your family and friends so they might influence the people in their lives.

This Volunteer Event will take place March 7th at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with lunch provided. Registration deadline is February 21st.
