First Things First
“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his own brother Simon and say to him, “We have found the Messiah!” John 1:41-42 (EHV)
As a prison chaplain for Institutional Ministries, it has happened on more than a few occasions, where an individual with whom I am studying God’s Word talks to me about a family member who is also incarcerated. It may be a father and son, son and mother, uncle and niece, brother and brother, or even three siblings who are all incarcerated. Sometimes, it is even a son or daughter who is concerned about family members who are not in prison.
Whatever the situation, it is wonderful evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in a believer’s heart when they want to share their faith with a loved one.
When the Holy Spirit brought Andrew to faith in Jesus as the promised Savior from sin, the first thing Andrew did was to share the Good news with his brother, Simon Peter. It still happens to this day! In Spirit-worked, Gospel-motivated faith, one family member reaches out to another family member to share the Good News about Jesus! From time to time, I have the blessing of joining in on that outreach effort!
Please join me in thanking the Holy Spirit for his work of leading sinners to Jesus, sinners who also share their faith with their family members, just as Andrew did.
