Perry was sentenced to several years in jail. During his first year, he noticed how some Christian inmates had comfort and peace which he did not have. Wanting this same comfort and peace for himself, he picked up a Bible. Thinking it was just another book, he decided to skip to the end and just read the conclusion. So, in his quest for peace, Perry began reading the book of Revelation.
Instead of finding peace, however, the book of Revelation alarmed him. Prior to reading Revelation, Perry didn’t think he needed a Savior, but the book’s message of condemning sin and sinners terrified him. That is when Perry decided to attend my Bible study.
We studied the Bible together for a whole year, and Perry became a changed person. Finally in a private moment he told me his story. He now had a trust in Jesus as his Savior and was at peace with God. Comforted by the gospel, he was now a very changed person. Now, the book of Revelation was a great revelation about Jesus and his love for us. Perry now saw himself as one of the saints who would stand before the throne of Jesus with all believers. He was now covered with Jesus’ saving forgiveness and Jesus’ perfect life. He was now friends with God forever. This scary book of Revelation turned out to be a great revelation — a revelation about his Savior Jesus Christ.
